The Diana Fountain Restoration, Bushy Park 2009

The restoration of the iconic image of Bushy Park took place during 2009, with the help of the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

For the first time in 300 years, the bronze statue of Diana and the twelve other bronzes were taken down, and over four months were cleaned, restored, and in some cases repaired.

The internal water pipes were removed and replaced. Over eighty pieces of marble and stone were replaced. All the other stone work was cleaned and most of it repointed. There were some unexpected discoveries too.

It was a delicate job carried out with great care by a small number of highly skilled people.

This unique documentary of the restoration and gilding of Bushy Park's Diana Fountain was produced by Pieter Morpurgo, Chairman of FBHP and former BBC TV producer.

The half-hour video captures unrepeatable and unmissable close-up detail of the statue in a way never seen before and possibly never to be seen again.
