What we do

The Friends of Bushy and Home Parks value the rural nature of these two neighbouring parks and believe that their landscapes should be protected so that future generations can enjoy their beauty and tranquillity.

The Friends watch over the parks and their wildlife, reporting problems and encouraging improvements.  We liaise with park managers and police. The committee considers proposals for development in and around the parks, opposing planning applications for structures that would spoil the views from the parks or their rural character.

We promote awareness of the historic and environmental significance of the parks through a programme of talks and walks.  These are given and led by speakers who are experts in their fields. Entry to these events is free.  There is a collection at the end of meetings to raise money towards our Annual Appeal.

An important part of The Friends work is raising money to improve the parks.  The Annual Appeal raises money for a particular chosen project. We also continue to support projects like the Environmental Education Centre which provides school children and other groups to study and explore Bushy Park.  They learn to appreciate and care for the natural environment.

We have an annual member's party and members also receive a newsletter three times a year. This gives information about events in the parks and details of the programme of walks and talks. It explains issues and keeps Friends in touch with each other, and with what is happening in the parks.

We are a non-profit making organisation.  We keep our running costs low so that we can attract a wide membership and channel any funds we raise to benefit the parks. Our Annual General Meeting is held on the first Friday in March, followed by one of our regular talks.

NEW MEMBERS ARE MOST WELCOME.  Do join us whether you wish to attend meetings and social gatherings or to give active help with the running of the organisation, or simply to stay in touch with what is happening in the parks.  We value your support.
